Museum Lates - Backstage Tours

Have an exclusive peek behind the curtain as our Collections Team showcase the fascinating work they do to keep the Museum running!

This March, for the second Museum Late of the season, discover the main Museum building after dark, with rare access to behind-the-scenes and off-limits collections areas through guided tours and supported experiences. A range of unique objects that are not usually on display to the public.

The Archive team will also be on hand to take you on a specialist tour of our extensive collection of historical documents, images and films, and give you the chance to learn about how our signature Heritage Certificates are made. Whilst you explore the Museum after dark you will be able to join our Curatorial team in our extensive artefact stores.

Cast your eyes upon a host of treasures, from road signs to toys of the past. Don’t miss this rare and exclusive opportunity to see the Museum from a whole new angle!

Schedule for the evening

17:00 onwards - Arrival via the Main Museum building.

17:30 to 19:00 - Food and drinks will be served on the Museum Gallery. At this time you will be able to sign up for your exclusive access Archive tour.

17:30 - 20:30 - Rolling tours will be starting every 30 minutes, which include an exploration of our Archive, exiting through the Learning Hub where there is an opportunity to explore some additional items and chat to our Conservator. Staff from our Archive team as well as volunteers will also be available to discuss any questions you might have. The tours will end here but there is no time limit to your exploration of this area. 

During the evening from 5.30pm - 8.30pm, the Artefact Store and Automobilia will also be open with Curatorial staff and Volunteers able to chat with visitors and offer some behind the scenes access to some items as well as show how we care for, clean and conserve smaller collections items.

19:00 - Last food service.

20:30 - The event closes.

Throughout the duration of the tours, the Learning Hub, Automobilia and the Artefacts store will also be open on a free access basis (without the need to book on a tour).

Tickets

Tickets are £25 per person, which includes your behind the scenes experience, as well as drinks, a main course, and pudding enjoyed on the Museum Gallery.

The ticket price for Members is £21, and for Premium Members just £17. Tap the button below with your membership number at hand to take advantage of your exclusive membership price. 

All proceeds from the event will support the vital work of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. Please note that this event is running outside of regular Museum opening hours, so Annual Passes are not valid for entry.
