Compton Verney - Exhibition
Reunited the Lamentation Altarpiece
For the first time in thirty years, see a rare masterpiece reunited.
Bringing together the central panel from the National Gallery of Scotland’s collection, with the original wings in Compton Verney’s collection, the magnificent Lamentation Altarpiece takes centre stage in our Northern European collection.
This display allows you to explore the ideas of remembrance, symbolism and storytelling. As well as consider the mysteries behind this painting, looking at new technical analysis and art historical discoveries to consider why the Altarpiece was made and by whom.
Opening Times

Mondays: Closed, except bank holidays
Galleries are open 10.30am -4.30pm
