From Poland with Music
Join us for an enchanting summer evening exploring Poland’s lively and varied musical tradition through light and lyrical works of some of the country's greatest composers presented on the piano & violin.
The concert will feature works by amongst others Fryderyk Chopin, Henryk Wieniawski, Grażyna Bacewicz and Wojciech Kilar.
They will be performed by talented and established musicians Anna Szałucka (piano) and Jaga Klimaszewska (violin), both of whom have made significant impacts on the international music scene, bringing the richness of Polish musical heritage to audiences around the world.
The concert is organised in partnership with Copernicana CIC.

More about Anna Szałucka

Jaga Klimaszewska, born in Gdansk, Poland, began studying violin at age seven. After graduating from the F. Nowowiejski Music School in 2009, she moved to London to continue her musical education, earning a Bachelor's degree from Guildhall School of Music and Drama and a Master's degree from the Royal College of Music. Jaga has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe in renowned venues like Cadogan Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and the Musikverein in Vienna. She has collaborated with esteemed artists such as Maxim Vengerov and Peter Herresthal and released her debut album with pianist Mateusz Rettner in 2019.

Fryderyk Chopin (1810-1849) Probably the most recognised an greatest of all Polish composers. He is celebrated for his profound influence on piano music. Born in Żelazowa Wola, Poland, he spent much of his life in Paris, where he gained fame for his exquisite compositions such as nocturnes, waltzes, preludes, and études, renowned for their lyrical beauty and emotional depth.
Grażyna Bacewicz (1909-1969) was a prominent Polish composer and violinist, known for her significant contributions to 20th-century classical music. Her extensive body of work includes symphonies, concertos, and chamber music, acclaimed for their innovative structure and lyrical qualities.
Henryk Wieniawski (1835-1880) was a distinguished Polish violinist and composer, acclaimed for his virtuosic technique. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, becoming one of its youngest graduates. Wieniawski's notable works, including two violin concertos, mazurkas, and polonaises, remain staples of the violin repertoire.
Wojciech Kilar (1932-2013) was a renowned Polish composer, celebrated for his contributions to classical music and film scores. His minimalist style and incorporation of Polish folk elements are evident in his symphonies, chamber works, and choral pieces, while his film scores, including "Bram Stoker's Dracula" and "The Pianist," brought him international acclaim.
