Museum Lates: Longbridge Legacies

In 1905, the first car was completed on the site of what would become known as the Longbridge Plant. This engineering goliath changed the motor industry as we knew it, and gave birth to hundreds of historic vehicles, from the Austin Seven to the first Minis. More than that, the Longbridge plant would reshape the community, creating employment and camaraderie for thousands of local people working in and around the plant.

For this Museum Late event, we’re running a special evening to celebrate the Longbridge Factory, its achievements and its impact on the local community. We’ll be keeping the Museum open after its regular closing hours, giving visitors a rare chance to see what it looks like after dark.

The main attraction will be Lord Austin’s Office, taken from the Longbridge plant itself and carefully reconstructed within the Museum. See the office as it was when Austin was running the show, with all his fixtures and fittings, and learn more about the man who worked here. You might even get the opportunity to chat with Lord Herbert Austin himself…

Austin’s office will be side by side with Lord Morris’ Office, a long-term exhibit of the Museum. Take a look in the office of one of Austin’s most famous contemporaries, and a fixture of the Longbridge plant in his own right.

Finally, we’re extremely proud to announce that we will be displaying a trio of MG prototypes, recently transported from the Longbridge factory, currently undergoing assessment in our Workshop. These genuine pieces of Longbridge history will be on display in the Museum for the very first time at this event, and you won’t want to miss this unveiling.

No need to worry about dinner as we’ll be serving a special meal, included in your ticket price, in the Gallery upon your arrival.
