Taking Shape: Patterns in the Museum

Patterns are everywhere in the world of cars. From elegant detailing on a car’s body, to charming patterns in the upholstery, a lot of work goes into creating cars that look good.

The Museum plays host to over 400 historic British cars, with a huge range of patterns across the collection to explore, a range that has inspired these May Half-Term Activities.

Each day, we’ll have a costumed character running our Character-Driven Family Tour, exploring shapes and patterns across the collection! If you want to get creative, visit the Learning Hub where you can use our amazing stamps in the Make Your Own Pattern Paper activity.

Finally, enjoy a self-guided trail as you check out the fastest cars in the collection to crown the true speed champion of the British Motor Museum.

All these activities are included in the price of admission, for a great value day out! Click the button below to book.

Character-Driven Family Tour – every day at 11.30am

There are a range of costumed characters living and working in the Museum, from chauffeurs to racing drivers. There’s nothing they love more than imparting their knowledge about cars, so they’re coming together this Half-Term to run an exciting family tour!

Each day at 11:30, one of the characters will be running a fun and engaging tour looking at shapes and colour in the collection, and in their own careers!

Meet up at the Family Activity station before 11.30am to join. No two tours will be the same!

Make your own Pattern Paper  - every day until 3.30pm with last entry at 3.00pm

Put your creative skills to the test in a brand new craft activity! Using the collection as inspiration, you will have the opportunity to create your own pattern paper.

We’ve got some fantastic wood-carved stamps, and a range of washable paints, that you can use to print some amazing patterns!

You can design a greetings card or some wrapping paper and, best of all, you can take your creation home!

Suitable for 4+ years with adult supervision.

Find the Fastest Car - Family Trail - every day.

There are over 400 British cars in the Museum, but which is the fastest? There’s only one way to find out. Pick up a trail sheet at the Family Activity Station and search for the fastest car in each zone of the Museum. Once you find each car, write down the name and their top speed. When you’ve found them all, check out the top speeds to find the fastest car in the whole collection.

When you’ve completed the trail, it’s full speed back to the Family Activity Station to check your answers and collect a reward sticker.
