The Shakespeare Guided Walking Tour of Stratford – with Mr or Mrs Shakespeare as your guide!
The tour is the life and times of William Shakespeare, related in an entertaining way by Will himself as he guides you through his home Town!
This entertaining tour with Master Shakespeare as your guide will relate the tales of his family, inspirations from the Town, parts of his plays and bring to life the period in time in which he lived. Shakespeare will include the Birthplace, Halls Croft, the Grammar School, the RSC, the Guild Chapel (which he will go in) and finally Holy Trinity Church.
Shakespeare was an actor as well as a playwright and will regale you with stories of his father’s sewage problems, the plague, murder and ghosts of Stratford too!
How long is the walk?
The tour is around one and a half hours but please allow two hours if there is a large group. Master Shakespeare will be happy to slow his pace if needed – please just ask.
Who plays the Bard?
We have several ‘Shakespeares’, as well as several ‘Mrs Shakespeares who will occasionally take the tour (we even have one on the Monopoly Box!) The tour has been running since 2011 and all our Shakespeares are highly trained, licensed actors with an in-depth knowledge of the great man!
What if it rains?
If it rains on the tour (this is England after all!) the tour will continue and the guide will try to find any cover where he can. However, you may wish to check the weather in advance and bring a brolly. Master Shakespeare himself will get wet!
So I have to be physically fit?
The tour is about a mile of walking and is wheelchair accessible and generally pretty level. We cannot guarantee the weather and rain can make some parts slipper, we would however suggest comfortable non-slip shoes where possible. Do discuss with the guide if you have any special provision.
Is the route wheelchair accessible?
Stratford is fairly flat and accessible. However we cannot guarantee there will not be the odd inconsiderate parked car blocking access at times.
Does the tour go inside any attractions?
You will see all the major buildings associated with Shakespeare’s life from birth to death and some of the Town’s history (from the outside only!) There will be plenty to occupy every age group with stories; Tudor architecture and even the River Avon, populated with swans!
Can I just turn up at the start of the tour?
Yes, you can just turn up but we would always recommend pre-booking just to be sure you have a spot and to avoid disappointment should the tour be cancelled for any reason.
Where does the tour start?
Unlike many ‘walks’ in Stratford upon Avon that have no site and you meet them ‘on the street corner’, this tour is an event offered by Tudor World, a ‘bricks and mortar’ historic building. You will therefore have confidence in the ability of the guides and the licenses in place. The tour starts at Tudor World in Sheep Street, CV37 6EE.
